writing is SOMETHING like that.
It’s a bit of an experiment. It can start with a question: “who are we talking to?” It can be something you stumble upon, like a line in a poem that burns bright on the page, you can see on a piece of packaging. Often times, it’s challenging. Sometimes, surprising. At all times, it pays to pay attention. Even more to be curious.
Because no one ever said “bon appétit” before digging into a word salad.
And unlike the inventor of chewing gum—another accident—the next best thing to knowing when to keep going, is knowing when to stop trying to turn the chicle into rubber.* Because all you will ever get is chewing gum.

What am I doing?
I’m currently the Copy Director at Chobani.
My first gig was not the school newspaper, but a local newspaper called the Toronto Star. My first “script” was a poem from this archive I cannot believe is still alive online. In ten years since moving to NYC, I’ve met and worked with people whose work and person I still admire, publishing two print issues of a magazine for adults, and working on features for a website that got hacked. My friend Sarah said I have sick taste. And this is where I figured out copywriting was a job. Fingers crossed, I have an essay featured in a forthcoming cookbook, being published by Rizzoli.
I like writing in different voices because in a parallel universe, I am a great actress.
